Is the Idaho health insurance exchange operated by the state of Idaho?

On December 11, 2012, Governor C.L. Otter announced Idaho’s commitment to the establishment of a state-based health insurance exchange. On March 28, 2013 the Governor signed into law legislation creating the Idaho Health Insurance Exchange. The official website for the state run health insurance exchange is yourhealthidaho.org.

Will there be a variety of plan options available through the exchange?

On September 4, 2013, Your Health Idaho announced that ‘Idahoans will be able to shop, compare and choose from 161 health plans on Idaho’s Health Insurance Marketplace.

Exchange products include:

  • 76 individual health plans
  • 55 small group health plans
  • 13 individual dental plans
  • 17 small group dental plans

All plans have been reviewed by the Idaho Department of Insurance to ensure they provide the Essential Health Benefits, EHBs.

Will premiums be the same statewide?

Idaho received approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to define the state’s geographic rating areas by three-digit zip codes. Idaho will have seven rating areas, which will be used to help determine monthly premiums.

Which companies were approved to offer health insurance through Your Health Idaho?

Blue Cross of Idaho has been approved to offer medical and dental products to both individuals and small groups. Individual Choice products will be available statewide at the gold, silver, bronze, and catastrophic metal levels. Individual Connect products will be available in regions 1, 5, and 6 at the gold, silver, bronze, and catastrophic metal levels with a platinum option available in regions 5 and 6. Individual and small group dental options will include Dental Choice and Dental Choice Plus products.

BridgeSpan, which was recently created by Cambia Health Solutions, now has a real internet presence, though little information is available through the new website. BridgeSpan will be offering exchange products in Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. In Idaho, the company’s individual medical option is the Idaho Exchange Gold Plan, Silver Plan, Bronze HSA Plan and Catastrophic plan. Plans will be available statewide.

SelectHealth, Inc was approved to offer individual and small group medical products through the Idaho health insurance exchange.

Altius Health Plans/Coventry Health Care will be offering individual medical plans through the Idaho exchange.

PacificSource Health Plans has been approved to offer medical and dental products to both individuals and small groups.

BEST Life and Health Insurance Company will be offering individual and small group dental plans. BESTONE individual dental plans and BEST Dental small group plans will be available statewide using the DenteMax Network.

Delta Dental of Idaho and The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America have also been approved to offer dental plans through the exchange.
