Physicians Health Plan Withdraws from Michigan Exchange Market

Physicians Health Plan, a subsidiary of Sparrow Health System, announced Monday September 17 that the insurance plan has chosen to defer entry into the Michigan healthcare exchange market “until more is known about how the state and federal programs will operate,” according to a PHP news release.

PHP receives federal funds to offset the cost of providing insurance to the state’s high-risk pool; given the company’s current customer base, PHP is afraid too many of its high-risk, costlier customers would remain with them in the exchange market.
