Cigna delays utilizing broker portal for direct subsidy application enrollment

According to an email notice released by Cigna, brokers will not be able to sell and submit a 2014 subsidized plan in October using Cigna’s broker portal. The delay comes as the result of changes the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is implementing regarding premium tax credit functionality and testing. Brokers should be able to begin submitting subsidized exchange coverage applications in November; in the meantime, brokers can work with customers who are subsidy eligible and prepare them to apply in November.

In October, brokers will still be able to:

  • Quote all of the Cigna Individual and Family Plans for 2014
  • Compare plans that Cigna is offering
  • Sell a nonsubsidized plan for 2014
  • Quote, compare and sell 2013 plans

Cigna is selling coverage through the new public health insurance exchanges in five states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Tennessee and Texas.
